Bangkok, Thailand – October 30, 2026 – PRESSADVANTAGE –
Siam Legal International, a BOI-LTR Unit Certified Agency and full-service law firm with more than 22 years of experience in Thailand, has highlighted a major milestone for the Long-Term Resident (LTR) Visa program, with more than 12,000 foreigners approved since its launch four years ago. The milestone coincides with a new online application system that is expected to reduce duplicated steps and create a more streamlined process for applicants.
The LTR Visa is a long-stay visa managed by Thailand’s Board of Investment (BOI). It was introduced to attract foreigners who bring investment, income, or professional expertise to Thailand.
Approved applicants can stay for up to 10 years, granted in two five-year periods, subject to continued eligibility. Other benefits include annual immigration reporting instead of reporting every 90 days, access to Fast Track airport services, and tax incentives and exemptions for certain categories, subject to the relevant conditions. Qualifying workers can also apply for a digital work permit.
The LTR has four categories. Wealthy Global Citizens is designed for individuals with substantial assets and qualifying investments in Thailand, while Wealthy Pensioners is designed for retirees aged 50 and over. Work-from-Thailand Professionals covers remote employees of qualifying overseas companies, and Highly Skilled Professionals covers specialists in targeted industries or other qualifying roles.
Applicants in all four categories also have the option to bring eligible family members as dependents. Wealthy Pensioners account for the most approvals since the program began, with more than 4,500, while dependents joining LTR holders account for more than 3,800.
Highly Skilled Professionals have received more than 1,700 approvals, followed by Work-from-Thailand Professionals with more than 1,000 and Wealthy Global Citizens with more than 700. By nationality, Americans account for the most approvals, followed by Japanese and British nationals.
The BOI estimates the program’s economic value at around THB 43 billion, counting visa fees, visa holder spending, investment, and tax revenue. That works out to roughly THB 3.6 million per approved person, a contribution that extends to the businesses and communities where these residents live.
“Reaching 12,000 approvals shows how firmly the LTR has established itself as a long-term residency option, and the strong numbers across every category reflect its broad appeal,” said Rex Baay, Senior Immigration Consultant and Operations Manager at Siam Legal International. “The new online system is a welcome step for applicants, but each category still has its own requirements, so identifying the right category and preparing the right documents remains the foundation of a successful application.”
With the program’s continued growth, the BOI has also introduced changes designed to make applying easier. In September 2026, the BOI launched a new online LTR system connecting four government agencies, designed to reduce duplicated steps and improve coordination so applicants can move through the process more efficiently.
Applicants can now submit their applications and supporting documents through the BOI’s LTR platform, with the connected system helping streamline coordination between the agencies involved. The requirements for each category still apply, but the new system is intended to make the process more convenient from submission through review. Siam Legal’s LTR Visa Thailand update covers the latest program figures and the new system in detail.
For those considering the LTR, the first step is identifying the right category and understanding the documents required. As a BOI-LTR Unit Certified Agency, Siam Legal supports applicants with eligibility assessments, document reviews, application preparation, and applications for eligible dependents.
