ELIN PELIN, BG – November 05, 2026 – PRESSADVANTAGE –
Algo Trading Space, the algorithmic trading education and software platform operated by EA Academy LTD, has released Backtest Manager, a desktop application for Windows that allows traders working with MetaTrader 5 to queue, run and compare large numbers of Strategy Tester backtests and optimizations from a single interface, with the software now available to download for anyone holding an Algo Trading Space account. The company built the tool to address a long-standing bottleneck in systematic trading, where testing an expert advisor across several symbols, timeframes and parameter sets has traditionally meant configuring and launching each run by hand.
Backtest Manager works alongside the MetaTrader 5 terminals already installed on a trader’s computer rather than replacing them. When a terminal is added, the application creates a copy of that installation for testing purposes, which leaves the original trading terminal untouched and allows live accounts to keep operating while research continues in the background. Every test is executed through MetaTrader’s own Strategy Tester, and the figures shown inside the application are read directly from the reports MetaTrader produces, so a trader can reproduce any result in their own terminal by applying the same settings and the same broker data.
Speed is the clearest practical change for users. Instead of waiting for one backtest to finish before starting another, the software can operate several terminals at once, with the number of simultaneous runs set by the processor cores and memory available on the machine, while optimizations are processed one after another to protect accuracy. A batch mode lets a single expert advisor and set file be tested across a chosen group of symbols and timeframes in one pass, sharing modelling, latency, deposit and leverage settings so that the results remain comparable from the first run to the last.
Optimization is handled through a dedicated workflow in which traders define start, step and stop values for each input, select either a fast genetic search or a complete search, and rank the resulting passes by a criterion of their choosing. Promising passes can be filtered and then promoted into full backtests without rebuilding the configuration, and existing MetaTrader 5 optimization cache files can be imported so that earlier work carries over into the new environment.
The application also gives traders an organized library for the robots and settings they test. Compiled expert advisor files and set files can be uploaded and linked together, licence keys can be stored with the robot they belong to, and set files support versions and variations, with each completed test recording exactly which version was used. For developers who iterate on the same strategy over weeks or months, that record makes it possible to trace how a change in parameters affected performance without relying on file names or memory.
Results are presented in a searchable, filterable view covering return, drawdown, return to drawdown ratio, win rate, profit factor and Sharpe ratio, and each entry opens into a full report with the equity curve, a list of deals and a breakdown of trades by symbol, hour and weekday. Up to ten results can be merged onto a single simulated account to show the real combined drawdown of several strategies running together, a figure that traders assembling multi-robot portfolios often have to estimate when each system is tested in isolation.
A Portfolio Builder within the software takes that analysis further by generating portfolio variants from robots that have already been backtested, using goals such as a monthly return target and a maximum acceptable drawdown. The test queue can be exported to and imported from CSV files for editing in spreadsheet tools, previously generated MetaTrader 5 reports can be brought into the results library complete with trade analysis, and an application programming interface makes results available to other systems. Algo Trading Space uses that interface to publish backtests on its own website, and the company reports that more than 14,000 backtests have already been run through the software for its internal research and published results.
More advanced users have access to a Robustness Suite, which checks whether a strategy holds up on different data and under Monte Carlo variation, and to Workflows, a feature currently in beta that chains backtests, optimizations and robustness reviews into a single automated sequence. Both features are aimed at traders who want evidence that a result reflects a durable edge rather than a set of parameters fitted closely to one stretch of history.
Getting started involves four steps: downloading the application, signing in with an Algo Trading Space account, adding a MetaTrader 5 installation, and uploading the expert advisors and set files to be tested, after which symbols, timeframes and a test period are chosen and the queue is started. To support new users, the company’s chief technology officer has recorded a series of eight instructional videos that walk through installation, batch testing, optimization and the analysis of results.
The company has been clear about who the tool is designed for. Backtest Manager is intended for expert advisor developers testing many parameter variations, portfolio traders who need combined drawdown and performance figures, buyers of trading robots who want to verify an expert advisor on their own symbols and broker data, and traders at proprietary trading firms who must confirm that a strategy behaves within strict drawdown limits. It supports MetaTrader 5 on Windows only, and it is not intended for traders using MetaTrader 4 exclusively, for Mac or Linux users without access to Windows, or for discretionary traders who do not use automated strategies.
“Backtesting has always been the part of algorithmic trading where people lose the most time, because the work is repetitive and the tools inside MetaTrader were built for one test at a time,” said a spokesperson for Algo Trading Space. “We built Backtest Manager for our own research first, and after running thousands of tests through it we wanted every trader in our community to have the same ability to test properly, compare honestly and see how strategies behave together before any of them goes near a live account.”
The release extends a software ecosystem that Algo Trading Space has been building around the full life cycle of an automated strategy. Backtest Manager sits alongside the company’s Account Tracker, Portfolio Builder, which together cover strategy creation, data preparation, testing, portfolio construction and the monitoring of live trading accounts, and the new application connects the testing stage of that process to the rest of the platform through a shared account.
Algo Trading Space is an algorithmic trading education and software platform operated by EA Academy LTD, a company registered in Bulgaria.
