XLerateHealth, LLC, a nationally recognized healthcare and life science commercialization accelerator based in Louisville, Kentucky, has been awarded the first phase of a $2.5 million Phase IIB Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) through the IDeA Regional Entrepreneurship Development (I-RED) Program (Award Number R44GM148083).

This Phase IIB award accelerates the national rollout of XLerateHealth’s enterprise commercialization platform and I-RED life science product suite. Driven by seasoned commercialization coaches and healthcare domain experts, XLerateHealth (XLH) is scaling its enterprise software architecture, specialized curriculum, AI-augmented digital tools, and expert talent marketplace into a proven delivery system to meet active demand from university technology transfer offices, federally funded biotech hubs, state-funded entrepreneurial service organizations (ESOs), and health systems translating new life science and healthcare technologies from bench to market.

“Taking a biotech or life science discovery from the lab to market is notoriously difficult; founders must navigate a daunting maze of regulatory approvals, reimbursement pathways, and specialized talent needs to build a validated, scalable, commercially successful business,” said Jacqueline Willmot, CEO and Co-founder of XLerateHealth. “Our enterprise platform provides institutional partners a turnkey toolkit to help their startups overcome these hurdles.”

This Phase IIB project builds upon a highly successful Phase II pilot that supported 17 academic innovators across 10 universities in the NIH Southeast IDeA States region. Over a 22-month evaluation period, participating startups achieved remarkable commercial milestones:

  • $20.46 Million in total follow-on capital raised (non-dilutive grants and seed investment)

  • 46% Success Rate on awarded SBIR/STTR applications

  • 53% Advancement toward executed technology licensing agreements

  • 35% Increase in new patent filings

XLerateHealth licenses its commercialization platform to enterprise clients seeking a proven engine to drive startup commercialization. Built for seamless configurability, the platform enables institutional partners—including federally funded biotech and innovation hubs (e.g., NIH REACH, I-Corps, NSF Engines, BARDA BAN Hubs, EDA Tech Hubs), universities and health systems with technology transfer offices, and state-backed ESOs—to launch and run comprehensive commercialization programs. Clients can leverage XLH to run fully managed programs or transition to an enterprise license, powered by XLH’s software platform as the underlying engine, to execute in-house with their own team.

“Billions of dollars go into early-stage biomedical research, yet the real friction occurs when turning that capital into market-ready companies,” added Robert Saunders, Chairman and Co-Founder of XLerateHealth and a seasoned venture capital investor. “Institutional leaders need scalable systems that de-risk regulatory, reimbursement, and go-to-market execution long before taking on venture capital. XLerateHealth’s platform provides that enterprise-grade toolkit, helping institutional partners scale high-impact life science innovations from within their ecosystems.”
