Zultanite LLC, the gem’s sole producer, says the 36.69-carat stone is the cleanest and largest pear-shape zultanite in existence; no reserve, October 28
GOLD COAST, QLD, AUSTRALIA, October 22, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — The largest known pear-shape zultanite, a 36.69-carat stone, will be offered with a starting bid of US$1 and no reserve during a live online auction on Gem Rock Auctions on Wednesday, October 28, 2026 at 10:30pm Eastern Time (1:30pm AEDT, Thursday, October 29).
Zultanite is the trade name for gem-quality color-change diaspore found only in the İlbir Mountains of southwest Turkey and mined by Zultanite LLC. The stone shows green in daylight and shifts toward brownish-pink and pinkish-red under incandescent light. Zultanite LLC has issued a provenance document for the 36.69-carat stone describing it as the cleanest and largest pear-shape zultanite known to exist, with fewer than a handful of comparable stones known worldwide.
“Flawless zultanite over five carats is already remarkably rare. A stone above 30 carats with this clarity is of real significance, and to our knowledge this is the cleanest and largest pear-shape zultanite in existence,” said Warasurase Rupasut, Head of Operations at Zultanite LLC. “The inscription on the girdle matches all of the certification, so collectors can be confident in exactly what they are bidding on.”
Zultanite LLC’s published suggested retail values list zultanite above 20 carats at US$14,000 per carat.
A 31.16-carat indicolite tourmaline will be offered in the same event on the same terms. Both stones are natural, with no indications of treatment, and both have been examined by the Gemological Institute of America (GIA). GIA Report 1565714783 identifies the first stone as diaspore, known in the trade as Zultanite or Csarite, weighing 36.69 carats: a pear-shaped modified brilliant cut that changes color from yellow-green in daylight to pinkish brown under incandescent light. GIA Report 2566714802 identifies the second as a tourmaline known in the trade as indicolite, weighing 31.16 carats, octagonal step cut. The tourmaline is vivid blue and internally flawless.
Both lots are offered by The Gem Portal, a colored gemstone dealer based in Bangkok. Because there is no reserve, each stone will sell to the highest bidder regardless of price. On October 14, The Gem Portal offered an 8.3-carat Paraiba tourmaline in the same format; it received 72 bids and sold for US$18,625.
“Stones like these usually change hands privately, long before the public ever sees them. Putting a 36-carat zultanite up from one dollar with no reserve means anyone, anywhere, gets a fair shot, and the market sets the price live,” said Ross Sedawie, COO of Gem Rock Auctions.
The auction will stream live from The Gem Portal’s store on Gem Rock Auctions. Copies of both lab reports are published on the event page. Gem Rock Auctions will publish the final prices after the event.
